Day 10 in the hospital, downgraded to Stable Condition... and a long road ahead of her. I said in this morning's post that she's out of the ICU, we're just waiting on a room to open up on another floor.
We had a little bit of drama today! We left Carrie (here doing some reiki) alone with mom, the speech therapist and Tara (our dialysis nurse)... Christy just had to go to the restroom, so she wasn't gone for long. They shifted mom up in her bed because she was slouching, and then blood was spraying all over the room. Her dialysis catheter popped right out of her chest, it apparently looked something like a murder scene in there! The speech therapist freaked out a bit and scrambled out of the room (I can only assume she doesn't normally see blood in her field). She'll be getting a new catheter "installed" soon. I wasn't here for all the drama, I just got to hear about it. AND, I missed seeing Tara. Boo. ** Side note, she stopped by to say hi. :)
The feeding tube is now out of her nose/stomach and she was cleared by the speech therapist to eat food. As soon as she got the go ahead, mom asked if she could have chocolate (one of their neighbors gave us a bag of dove chocolates in a care package). She savored that chocolate for a long time. I thought she was grimacing at one point and when I questioned her, she said, "I'm savoring my chocolate!" She also got to eat some applesauce and peaches. Fun! Oh, and no more sucking on her sponge-on-a-stick to moisten her mouth... she can drink water...
She's really trying to be a super star for us today. She took a nice solid nap this afternoon and then ate real food for dinner. Roast beef, scrambled eggs, mandarin oranges, and a V8. I think her nurse was impressed with how well she did eating (ate everything but about 4 bites of beef - too much chewing). She sounded so much stronger at the end of today than she did at the beginning of the day.
It brings me so much joy to hear her laughing (I've been working my tail off to make her laugh). I can't believe how far we've come in such a short amount of time. This picture was too cute not to share; Gav, Jon, and I gave her this adorable stuffed owl and she fell asleep for her amazing power nap, holding onto it like this.
Yeah Christy, you just had to pee and get some coffee. The speech therapist pretty much handed them the disinfectant wipes and ran, LOL. The Dr thought I was nervous b/c of my hand but I just told him I wasn't nervous my hand just does that some times. What was I suppose to say....I am just healing her. I am so sure the Dr would have a hay day with that comment. I am so glad she got to eat.
